We bought a huge van. It’s a long story and it happened fast. We wanted to be able to do some fun day trips. Maybe I could go tent camping with the boys on my own. Also, we will be outgrown our pop up trailer soon. So the big kids would be able to sleep in the van. So anyways, we did our first day trip, and it had a few bumps.
The morning was rough. I spent it crying. Worried about the boys going to a new school. Worried about them wearing masks all day long and wondering if I’d made the right decision. And a few other things making me stressed.
We were finally ready to leave. Dylan looked in the camping stove that we were going to bring to cook dinner to see if the adapter for the propane was in it. It was not. I remember Zach having it and Dylan asking me to take it from him. But we don’t know where it ended up. We decided to grab our little charcoal grill instead.
The reservoir is about an hour away. Kyler said something about 5 minutes before we arrive at the reservoir that made me realize I had not packed the paddle to our new paddle board. Then when we pull up to pay, we see a sign that says charcoal grills are not allowed because of fire danger. We turn around and find a different entrance to the lake. Still no charcoal grills allowed so we decide that the boys and I would hang out while Dylan drives to a store for a new grill. We had been wanting a new grill anyways. He could also look for a paddle.
The rest of the day went without incident. Someone loaned us a paddle. Kyler and Oliver went out one more time after we had to give it back, so they used our big sand shovels we brought. The grill worked great. It’ll come with us on many adventures.

Sorry you were off to a bad start on your camping trip, but just think of it as a learning experience. I’ll bet you’ll always be prepared from now on.Ollie & Zack look satisfied eating their hamburgers. Thanks for the photos. I always enjoy them.Love,Dad
